Things Get Spooky for NCCC Team Serving in Rapid City

By Emma Prichard   AmeriCorps NCCC team, Cedar 5, is currently working with the Black Hills Works of Rapid City, South Dakota. This is the team’s final project with the NCCC. They started the project on September 11 and will finish on October 31. While at Black Hills Works, the team is teaching and assisting individuals with disabilities.

NCCC Team Works with Milwaukee Parks and Rec and The Nature Conservancy

  NCCC team, Oak Six, has been splitting their time between two project sponsors for their last project round with NCCC. The first sponsor is the Milwaukee County Parks and Rec in Milwaukee, Wis. and the second is The Nature Conservancy in East Troy, Wis.   With Milwaukee County Parks and Rec, Oak Six is primarily trail building.

  Today's NCCC Spotlight is on FEMA Corps Pine 1 team leader Amy Fulton.   Name: Amy Fulton   Hometown: Greencastle, Pa.   Amy is serving as a member of the NCCC FEMA Corps team Pine 1 at the Vinton Campus. She chose to participate in NCCC FEMA Corps because she believes that a term of service will increase her compassion and help her grow as an individual.

He chose to participate in NCCC FEMA Corps because he wanted to make himself useful to communities that need extra help. Chris graduated from ConVal High School in 2008 and Siena College in May 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in religious studies and Spanish.

Benton County Conservation Board welcomes new member Randy Scheel

Randy Scheel   I would like to be the first to welcome our newest member of the BCCB, Randy Scheel.  Today the Board of County Supervisors voted to appoint Randy to the Conservation Board.   I wanted to personally thank Randy for his interest in conservation and his hard work on the OCNT through the years.  I know that he will help us grow the department to new levels.

NCCC Maple 1 team builds homes in the Upper Peninsula

   NCCC team, Maple 1, arrived in Michigan to work with the Marquette County chapter of Habitat for Humanity and has been hard at work since September 12. From day one, they have hit the ground running with work at three different Habitat homes, all in different stages of building development.    Maple 1 started their project working primarily on vinyl siding, deck construction as well as completing the roofs ventilation system.

NCCC Team Assists in Mississippi

By: Amy Stahl   On September 25, NCCC  team, Maple 3, was sent down to help the people of Mississippi in response to Hurricane Issac.  Maple 3, is working with IRD Gulf coast (International Relief and Development) to help the survivors return to their homes and get back to their daily routines.   Switching off in teams of three and four the team performs assessments to see when homeowners can return to their homes.

He chose to participate in AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps because he wanted to experience new things and go places he has never been before.  Dane graduated from Berlin High School in 2007 and the University of Wisconsin-Madison in May 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in genetics and a certificate in computer science.
